THE DANCE INSTITUTE IN A NUTSHELL:
The teaching in Lappeenranta Dance Institute aspires to support the overall mental growth, creativity and social skills of the student, while also providing them with a versatile view on dance and all things related to dance. We take into account the individual needs and differences in our students, and aim to support their skill-development on a personal level as well. We have a motto (that rhymes a bit better in Finnish; ) “Dancing like we mean it seriously, while not taking it too seriously.”
The basic education in the arts, and of Dance, is goal-directed, and advances from grade-level to the next. It is regulated by law, and is based on the curriculum published by the Ministry of Education. Lappeenranta Dance Institute provides teaching in the basic education in the art of dance in both general syllabus and extended syllabus, for all ages. We have dance classes for toddlers, children, teens, adults.
All this may sound theoretical or even academic, but it basically means that our teachers are professionals and they have a good understanding of consistent, results-oriented, progressive dance teaching in each of our dance genres. Welcome to the world of dance with us!
WHAT DOES IT MEAN TO DANCE HERE, IN THE DANCE INSTITUTE?
Lappeenranta Dance Institute follows the usual school-year in its daily routines (with holiday-times etc), and we’ve divided the year to Autumn and Spring semesters, which is also familiar from school. Once you start with us in Autumn, you have also secured your spot in the same dance group for the Spring semester!
At the end of Spring, each student may apply for a new group, which might mean going up a class-number, or for example moving from “children’s dance” -group to the next age-level, which would then be “The basics of dance”.
Each dance-filled year is full of opportunities to see our performances, and to take part in our events!
Dancing equipment:
The usual needs of dancing equipment for each dance group are written on our page “Dancing equipment”. You may always ask from our student office or from your own teacher, to make sure you have the correct equipment for your dance classes. We’re happy to help!
